With help from IBI Group’s Systems team in Toronto, the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has launched a new and expanded version of its 511NY traveller information system.

The system relaunched December 8, 2014 and now boasts a new mobile app version that uses the smartphone GPS location to provide hands-free, voice activated traffic alerts for drivers. This state-of-the-art app was developed by IBI Group in partnership with Green Owl Mobile.

IBI Group was hired by NYDOT last year on an aggressive six-month schedule to rehost and redevelop the system, which provides a full range of functions including 511ny.org website, 511 IVR, Mobile App, Transit Trip Planner, and state-wide travel alerts via email and SMS.

“Our standard 511 software as a service product met the majority of NYSDOT’s requirements and was then customized and configured to their liking,” said Geoff Carter, IBI Group 511NY Operations Manager. “We’re particularly proud of the mobile app component which is now available for download from the App store and Google Play.”

IBI has delivered similar systems in Southern California, Wisconsin, Florida, Massachusetts, Alaska, and South Africa.
